KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — A lawyer claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of hurting his former wife.

Muhd Rafiq Thangaraj Abdullah, 54, was alleged to have committed the offence on Noor Shida Ismail, 56, who was his wife at that time, at their home in Jalan 1/27D, Section 6, Wangsa Maju here at about 11 pm on March 13, 2015.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law, provides an imprisonment for up to two years, or fine not exceeding RM4,000, or both, if found guilty.

Magistrate Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor set bail at RM6,500 with one surety and forbade Muhd Rafiq from disturbing his former wife until disposal of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin prosecuted, while Muhd Rafiq was represented by lawyer M. Athimulan.

The court set July 15 for mention. — Bernama
