SABAK BERNAM, June 14 ― Umno Sungai Besar chief Datuk Jamal Yunos said the opposition used a controversial quote of his on a campaign billboard here as they had no ideas for the constituency.
DAP had put up a billboard quoting him as saying “Panggil Cina babi tidak salah (Not wrong to call Chinese pigs)” as it could not get any traction on issues such as 1Malaysia Development Bhd and the RM2.6 billion donation, he added.
“This is an empty and outdated idea. They have ran out of ideas on issues to raise till they had to resort to this.
“In the end, they had to defame me by labelling me a racist leader,” he told reporters at the meet and greet session with the Sekinchan community today ahead of the June 18 poll.
He then mocked Amanah that was contesting the seat, saying residents knew him better than the party that was struggling for recognition.
Jamal also said the Islamist party had no resources of its own and was entirely dependent on DAP for its campaign.
The billboard, along with another saying “BN PAS sehati sejiwa, rasis rasuah sama sekali (BN and PAS are of one soul, together in racism and corruption)”, had asked voters to choose Amanah.
Both were removed by Election Commission officials and are now the subject of police investigations.
Jamal was recorded issuing the quote after the so-called Red Shirts rally on September 16 last year, in defence of an attendee who hurled racial insults at a Chinese reporter.
