KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 ― A 12-year-old boy in Kelantan received first-degree burns that will require extensive plastic surgery after he was doused in petrol and set on fire by two masked men.
Mazni Che Hussain, mother to Heriey Hanif Kamaruzi, said two men on a motorcycle had stopped in front of the family home in Kampung Pulau Gajah and questioned the boy about his father’s location beforehand, The Star Online reported today.
“I suspect this was an act of revenge by someone who may have issues with my husband. I really can’t say anything more than that,” the 33-year-old woman was quoted saying.
The primary schooler is currently being treated at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Baru.
The mother of five said Heriey sustained burns over a third of his torso and arms.
She added that doctors told her reconstructive surgery would only be possible “in a week or two” when his condition stabilises.
The report cited Kelantan criminal investigation department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakri Che Sulaiman saying police are looking for the boy’s attackers, though the motive is still unknown.
