KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — A man and his son drowned while another son was rescued from a watery grave when the car they were travelling in, plunged into a river off Jalan Tanjung Malim near here last night.

Nik Asif Nik Mat, 47, and Nik Afiq Farhan, 18, were believed to have drowned due to strong water currents in the 11pm incident.

Hulu Selangor police chief, Superintendent R. Supramaniam said the other son, Nik Muhammad Fariss, who was the driving the car, was rescued by passers-by.

He said initial investigations revealed the car, which was coming from Sungai Besar and heading towards Gedangsa in Hulu Selangor, plunged into the river after the driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp bend.

“The bodies were sent to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital,” he said in a statement here today. — Bernama
