KUALA TERENGGANU, May 20 — A female teacher experienced chilling moments after allegedly being ‘shot’ at twice, in an incident in Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu on Wednesday.
State CID chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said in the 7am incident, the woman who works at a secondary school in the district was on the way to work.
He said when passing through Jalan Paya Besar, the 38-year-old teacher attempted to overtake a Proton Saga, but failed.
“Suddenly, a motorcycle came from the opposite direction and the teacher had to continue driving behind the car (Proton)... she sensed there were two men in the car.
“When (the victim) was about five metres behind the car, the front passenger had fired a shot with a gun believed to be a pistol… it sounded like a gun shot, and released smoke,” he said in a statement, here, today.
He said the victim who was startled by the shot distanced her vehicle, but the purported assailant fired another shot.
Clearly panicked and not knowing the motive behind the shooting, he said the teacher then lodged a police report on concerns about her safety.
Wan Abd Aziz said an operation was launched to detect the suspects, and the police raided a home in Taman Permai Pesanggaran, Kuala Berang, at about 8pm the same day.
“We arrested a labourer, and during the investigations, he confessed to having driven the car to send his eight-year-old son to school.
“On the way, his son had been playing with a toy gun..we also seized the toy gun that was purchased for RM8 from the Kuala Berang night market,” he said.
He said no further action was taken against the Year Two pupil, however, the police will carry out checks against the trader who sold the toy gun. — Bernama
