KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng questioned today if Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia will apologise to him and another DAP lawmaker for allegedly “failing” to meet his promises to reform the Dewan Rakyat.
Pandikar was previously reported to said that Minister’s Question Time be delayed to October as ministers need more training to handle the new session.
The move was among reforms to be introduced when the lower Parliament house resumes its sitting Monday.
“Last year, Pandikar said that Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik and I should resign or vacate our seats if he brings reforms to Parliament in the first Parliament session of 2016,” Lim said in a statement.
“Will he apologise to us or does he still want us to resign because he failed to fulfil his promises?” Lim asked.
Lim and Ng both criticised Pandikar last year for not bringing parliamentary reforms as he promised.
Pandikar had last year threatened to resign as Speaker, but stayed on after being assured by Putrajaya that he would be allowed to carry out reforms.
Despite announcing a series of reforms earlier this year that received the Cabinet’s consent, Pandikar has now said that one of the key reforms, the Minister’s Question Time, will only be implemented in the October sitting.
The revised Question Time allows MPs to submit questions on current issues to ministers with just a 24-hour notice, unlike the current system where MPs are required to submit all their questions weeks before the commencement of the parliamentary session.
