KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — Barisan Nasional (BN) won five out of six seats that saw multi-cornered contests with Pakatan Harapan allies PKR and the DAP in the Sarawak state election today, according to unofficial figures.
However, even if Pakatan Harapan had ensured straight contests against the incumbent BN, they still would have lost.
Unofficial figures showed BN candidate Lo Khere Chiang from SUPP winning 6,494 votes in hotly contested Batu Kitang, compared to DAP’s Abdul Aziz Isa (4,628) and PKR’s Voon Shiak Ni (889) that, together combined, totalled 5,517, less than BN’s vote tally.
BN had also won Mambong, winning 6,143 votes against DAP’s 2,828 votes and PKR’s 2,631 votes. The votes for both PKR and the DAP combined still fell short of BN’s tally at 5,459 votes.
Ngemah, another seat where both Pakatan Harapan parties clashed, saw a BN victory according to unofficial numbers, with BN polling at 2,888 votes compared to PKR (396) and DAP (243).
BN won Simanggang too that saw a multi-cornered contest with PKR and the DAP, winning 4,058 votes compared to DAP (723) and PKR (574), according to unofficial figures.
BN won Murum also, bagging 3,265 votes to PKR’s 1,065 and DAP’s 687 votes.
Unofficial results are not in yet for Mulu, the sixth seat contested by both PKR and the DAP.
