KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng escaped reporters at least twice in the Dewan Rakyat today when approached with questions on his controversial purchase of a house on Jalan Pinhorn in George Town.
Earlier today, as he made his way out of the House, the DAP lawmaker was accosted by pressmen who among others asked him to respond to the claim that the house was sold at a cheaper rate because of bad Feng Shui.
But Lim refused to comment and told reporters that he was rushing for another engagement.
“I’m sorry, I have an appointment to go to,” he said before leaving.
Dissatisfied, a reporter berated Lim for evading the media despite often accusing his political foes in Barisan Nasional (BN) of doing the same.
“YB, why are you running away? YB, you always condemn the BN ministers for running away. YB, why are you now running away? Come and answer,” the reporter said.
But Lim ignored this and left in his car.
When met later again, Lim refused to take questions and just smiled before re-entering the Dewan Rakyat.
Lim has been on the defensive over the past two weeks since Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya linked the Bagan MP’s double-storey house bought last year to the 2012 sale of state land Taman Manggis.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the police have opened investigations on the matter.
Lim is expected to meet MACC officers later this week to answer questions.
