MELAKA, March 25 — A shopping mall in Jalan Lagenda here was thoroughly checked today after the police received a report saying that four bombs had been planted and would explode in the area.
Central Melaka Police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the mall was checked by the bomb squad and the canine unit according to the standard operating procedures.
"However, no suspicious object or item was found in the building," he told reporters when met at the mall after the operation.
He said the report was lodged by a security guard at 2.40 pm after stumbling upon a message that read "There is 4 bombs that will explode" written on one of the doors in the men's toilet on the first floor of the four-storey mall.
"This is the first of such incidents in the state, but we view this very seriously as it can jeopardise public safety," he said, adding that further investigations are being done to track down the culprits.
The bomb scare, however, did not cause panic among the patrons and business operators. — Bernama
