TAWAU, March 11 — Police arrested a married couple and a fisherman suspected of possessing 1,083.2 grams of syabu worth about RM100,000 in an unnumbered wooden house in Kampung Wakuba here early yesterday.

Tawau District Police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the trio were arrested at 5.30 am during a raid at the house.

“The man, aged 41, and his wife, aged 30, who are unemployed and did not have any personal identification documents, were arrested in a room while the fisherman, a 35-year-old local man was picked up while watching television.

“Upon further examination, the drugs were found in a blue Proton Iswara Aeroback vehicle owned by one of the suspects parked in front of the house,” he told a media conference here today.

He said police seized a black plastic packaging and a newspaper wrapped with cellotape which contained two plastic packets of transparent crystals suspected to be syabu.

Fadil said urine screening tests conducted on the three suspects revealed the two male suspects to be drug positive while the woman was drug free.

He said all the suspects were remanded for seven days to enable the police to conduct further investigation on the case.

Meanwhile he said from January to February this year, Tawau police had recorded 463 drug related cases with the arrest of 492 people.

He said the police would continue to cripple the drug trafficking syndicate and detect the drug network and urged the local community to channel information on such activities. — Bernama
