CYBERJAYA, March 11 — A lawyer from Kuala Terengganu has been called to the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters to assist in investigations into a false comment suspected to have been uploaded on to his Facebook account.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today, the device he owned, an iPhone 6 handphone, suspected to have been used to upload the content, had been confiscated.

“A statement from him has also been recorded,” the statement said.

In the statement, MCMC said it viewed seriously abuse of social media and communication services, and it would not hesitate to take appropriate action provided under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Social media and communication services should be used wisely,” it said.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 allows a fine of up to RM50,000 or jail of not more than one year or both, if found guilty. — Bernama
