ALOR GAJAH, March 11 — The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) detained five Indonesian men suspected of attempting to infiltrate into Malaysian waters in an operation codenamed ‘Operasi Satria Selatan’ in Pulau Undan, here yesterday.
Kuala Linggi District Five Maritime Enforcement Head, Maritime Captain Mazlan Mat Rejab said the suspects comprising a boat crewman and a skipper as well as three passengers aged between 20 and 49, were detained five nautical miles west of the island at about 10.45 last night.
“They were detained after the MMEA detected the noise from a fibre glass boat with a 40 horsepower Yamaha engine without a registration number from the direction of the Sungai Duyung coast heading to the middle of the sea while they were patrolling in the area,” he told reporters at a press conference, here today.
He said initial inspection revealed that the skipper and crewman aged 49 and 34 respectively, and a 34-year-old passenger did not have any identification document or passport.
Mazlan said the other two passengers, aged 20 and 24, had social visit passes which expired last Oct 7 and Nov 25.
He said the boat was suspected of being used to bring in and out Indonesian nationals using ungazetted routes. — Bernama
