KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 ― The organisers of last year’s Bersih 4 rally and a counter gathering by a movement dubbed the “Red Shirts” have yet to pay for the capital city’s clean-up despite being sent the bills months ago, the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government has said.

The ministry said cleaning firm Alam Flora Sdn Bhd sent the bills to both groups last September and will take further action to claim payment.

“For your information, the organiser of the Bersih Gathering and Red Shirts have not made the transactions to pay for the cleaning costs, which is RM64,955.00 for the organiser of the Bersih Gathering and RM38,214.70 for the Organiser of the Red Shirts Gathering.

“In line with that, based on the information received, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd has taken action by sending invoice demanding for payment dated September 1, 2015 to the Bersih Gathering Organiser and the Red Shirts Gathering Organiser dated September 30, 2015,” the ministry said in a written Parliamentary reply yesterday to DAP's Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong.

“Therefore, any subsequent actions regarding the claiming of payment for cleaning costs will be done by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, since this concessionaire has the right to make this claim and is the one who provided services,” the ministry said.

The 34-hour Bersih 4 rally by polls reform watchdog Bersih 2.0 was held on August 29 and August 30, while the Red Shirts rally was held on September 16.
