KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 — Three men, each has to serve 15 years in jail and 10 strokes of the rotan and eight years in jail and eight strokes of the rotan, after the High Court here granted their applications to have their sentences reduced after being convicted of raping a minor two years ago.
Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah, however, said their conviction remained unchanged.
In passing down the sentence, the judge also reminded the trio not to take advantage of women, especially a minor, when they were released from jail.
“If you were not thinking about your sins, then think about the punishments that await you,” he said.
The judge said this after granting the applications by former security guard Mohamad Amir Mazlan, 29, former despatch rider Kamarul Akmal Remli, 26, and former telephone installation contractor Shah Reza Zulkifli, 22, to have their sentences reduced.
On Aug 7 last year, Sessions Court judge Zulqarnain Hassan sentenced Mohamad Amir, who also had previous record related to rape, to 19 years’ jail and 16 strokes of the rotan, while Kamarul Akmal and Shah Reza were sentenced to 11 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane.
They were found guilty of raping the girl at a hotel room in Cheras between 2pm and 4.30pm on Oct 30, 2013.
Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Norazlin Mohamad Yusoff while counsels Ananthan Vijayakumar, Alex Anton Netto and Zamri Ibrahim represented Mohamad Amir, Kamarul Akmal and Shah Reza respectively. — Bernama
