KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 — Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was purportedly jeered by football supporters at the Darul Aman Stadium last night, according to a video of the incident uploaded to YouTube.
Boos began raining on the new Kedah mentri besar after his name was announced following the state anthem prior to the state football team’s match against Kelantan in the M-League there last night.
“If previously the old MB was greeted with cheers and claps, the new MB is jeered by Kedah supporters in the stadium,” read the description of the video uploaded by YouTube user “McTheory Croniez”
The user also alleged that Ahmad Bashah’s name was jeered each time it was mentioned, and that the Kedah MB’s motorcade was also booed when it left the stadium after the match.
Kedah defeated Kelantan 2-1 in the match.
Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir resigned as Kedah MB last month after the state regency council informed him that he had lost support among the state’s lawmakers.
Ahmad Bashah, who led a delegation of Umno leaders to express their loss of confidence in Mukhriz, was then named as the new MB.
Following the change, local firm D'Herbs Holding Sdn Bhd announced that it was cancelling its plan to sponsor the Kedah football team.
