PETALING JAYA, Feb 29 — Police detained seven men suspected of being involved in a gang attack on two men in Jalan Utara, here, yesterday, about eight hours after the incident.
They were detained in different locations in the Klang Valley, and police are now hunting down five more suspects in the same incident.
Petaling Jaya district police chief, ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said all the suspects were believed to be members of a gangster group which was active in the Klang Valley.
Speaking at a press conference here today, he said the motive of the attack was believed to be extortion.
He added that police would be seeking a remand order for all the arrested suspects today.
Early yesterday morning, 12 men attacked two men who tried to escape on a motorcycle in Jalan Gasing, causing one of the victims to die and the other seriously injured.
Both the victims were believed to have been stabbed with a sharp object in the 4.30am incident.
Earlier, a fight broke out between the attackers and victims at a pub in Jalan Gasing.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zani said police were monitoring the situation on the Marxism Course scheduled to be held on March 20 at a house called Gerakbudaya in Section 11, here.
He was leaving it to Selangor police chief, Datuk Abdul Samah Mat to make any further announcement on the event.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in his Twitter account stressed that police would not permit the course, believed to be aimed at reviving the communist ideology. — Bernama
