KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — The 35 overweight cops included in the “Trim N Fit 2016” programme, launched on Jan 6, are working hard at losing their bulge after they began an intensive two-day boot camp at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) yesterday.
The programme started with the officers pledging an oath to reach their objective of losing five to 10 per cent of body weight by the end of the six-month programme.
For two days, the officers will be thoroughly educated on their diet and undergo vigorous exercise regimes and outdoor activities.
Bukit Aman management director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah launched the pilot programme to reduce the amount of obese officers and the risk of those falling ill.
“This camp, which is set up with the Health Ministry, will provide the necessary information for us to reach the objective.
“Hopefully, by the end of the year, this will be implemented nationwide and the police force would be physically stronger in a few years,”he said.
However, other districts are already following suit ever since it was mentioned that it could be a criteria to be considered for promotions.
Pahang Police chief Datuk Seri Sharifuddin Abdul Ghani had advised cops in the state to use the stairs more often.
Sharifuddin said officers are now being encouraged to participate in physical and aerobic exercise held every Friday.
