JASIN, Jan 8 — The Malacca police yesterday arrested a woman claiming to be a ‘Queen Mother’ to facilitate investigations into the organising of an unrecognised ceremony at Sungai Rambai here this Saturday.
Jasin District Police chief DSP Sampornak Ismail said the woman in her 40s was arrested along with her husband, also in his 40s, at their home in Sungai Rambai here at about 2pm.
He said police investigated the case after receiving reports from the public who got an invitation to the event scheduled for 2pm on Saturday.
“We suspected something was amiss with this ceremony, we formed a task force to investigate, we have conducted raids (at the suspect’s house) and some equipment were seized for investigation,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Sampornak said police were still investigating the details of the event and advised people not to attend the ceremony.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by way of personation, and urged anyone with information about the case to contact the police. — Bernama
