KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The Education Ministry will be organising dialogues and forums to find the best approaches the government can take to increase English proficiency among students.
Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said the dialogue sessions and forums would involve all stakeholders including non-governmental organisations as well as the Performance Management & Delivery Unit (Pemandu) in the Prime Minister’s Department.
“We need to work together with everyone. At the same time, the Higher Education Ministry will also get inputs from the public on what can be done so that English proficiency can be increased,” he told reporters when met at MIC’s Deepavali open house here today.
He said this in commenting on reports that more than 1,000 young doctors did not continue with their careers because their command of English was poor.
On another matter, Kamalanathan said said entry of Indian students into polytechnics was the highest this year exceeding 10 per cent of the total enrolment while more than 1,400 Indian students also gained entry into matriculation colleges. — Bernama
