KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 today said they are hoping to meet with Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia in a bid to “convince” him to allow a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The group's chairman, Maria Chin Abdullah, claimed that they have so far collected 31,000 postcards and online letters aimed at pressuring MPs to call for such a vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

“We hope that it will (be enough to convince Pandikar). It's not just about numbers, it's really about the truth,” she said when met outside Parliament after handing over the petitions to MPs here.

“He has given a yes-and-no answer on the vote of no confidence, so we want to convince him to hear this resolution out. And it's for the MPs to vote on it,” she added.

Maria claimed that they have so far collected signatures from Malaysians in 211 out of the 222 parliamentary constituencies nationwide, and expect to receive more as they move ahead with the campaign launched on October 8.

“What we are asking MPs is to have this vote of no confidence, which has been put forward as a resolution to vote for it.

“(We want the vote) mainly because we want answers to 1MDB, we want answers to the money that went into the private account of Prime Minister Najib Razak,” she said, referring to state-owned firm 1 Malaysia Development Berhad.

A motion for a vote of no confidence against Najib was initially filed by PKR's Hee Loy Sian and listed in Parliament's Order Paper when the House resumed for its final meeting for the year.

The motion was later retracted and resubmitted by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, in a bid to present a united push for the vote.
