KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — PAS must state now if it intends to co-operate with rival Barisan Nasional so that voters can make informed decisions on whether to support the Islamist party, Pakatan Harapan lawmakers said today.
Parti Amanah Negara’s (Amanah) Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said it would be dishonest to conceal such intentions from voters.
“It is their right, if they want to go alone or with BN. We ask them to make their intention clear so the people won’t be disappointed.
“Let them make their stand clear, what is their political direction. If they want a change in government or they want to be with the BN government or want to be with opposition against the BN government,” he told reporters during a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.
Khalid was responding to a statement made by PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who said the Islamist party can achieve success alone after Pakatan Rakyat was declared dead in July.
DAP’s Anthony Loke accused Hadi on inconsistency for criticising MPs who raised placards in Dewan Rakyat last week as uncivilised.
Loke said PAS did not have issues with such action before, including a similar protest against the Goods and Services Tax, and that Hadi’s criticism now was born of spite.
“Anti-GST placards were carried but that time all opposition MPs including PAS has raised placards,” the Seremban MP added.
PKR’s Hulu Langat MP Abdullah Sani labelled Hadi as “rude” for his statement earlier today and said they were merely doing their part as lawmakers by raising the protest in Parliament.
Hadi earlier today said the other opposition parties needed PAS more than it needed them.
“PAS has been on its own for a long time. In fact it is other parties who have depended on us (for support),” Hadi told reporters at a press conference in the Parliament lobby today.
“In any demonstration where PAS does not attend, you will see that no one attends. They need our members, our machinery,” the Marang MP added.
He also stressed that PAS will never join Pakatan Harapan.
