KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Recent controversies involving Tan Sri Annuar Musa makes him the wrong candidate to be chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), DAP’s Lim Kit Siang today.

While pressing Putrajaya to urgently appoint a new PAC chairman when Parliament reconvenes next week, the DAP MP said the rumoured selection of the Umno Supreme Council member for the role was ill advised.

“There can be no more controversial and divisive nominee for the post of PAC Chairman than Annuar Musa, not only because he should have been sacked as MARA chairman to take responsibility for MARA’s international corruption scandals in Australia which involved the use of MARA funds to acquire real estate at higher than the market prices, but for his role in the racist Sept 16 Red Shirts Rally and his outrageous claim that he is allowed to be a racist by Islam,” Lim said today.

The PAC had been investigating 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) until then chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed was appointed deputy home minister and three other members brought into the administration in July.

Its inquiry was then suspended after Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia ruled that the committee could not proceed until a new chairman is appointed.

Annuar is chairman of federal Bumiputera empowerment agency MARA, whose Australian subsidiary is under investigation for alleged corruption involving property purchases there.

He also caused controversy by professing to be racist following the pro-Malay #Merah169 rally last month, and claiming that Islam permits racism as long as other communities are not oppressed.
