KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — The police investigation on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is dependent on details in the Auditor-General’s report, which has yet to be released, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
Khalid said the investigation is ongoing but cannot be concluded until the report is ready and released.
“We are still waiting for the report from the Auditor-General. If we don’t wait for the report, our investigations are not complete,” he told reporters today.
Khalid added that the Auditor-General’s report was needed in order to identify the alleged offences that may have been committed.
The police chief also explained that members of the now-disbanded special task force comprising him, Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz and Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali still keep in touch.
“We are still in touch. We have met before this, but now we are coordinated by the AG. We still do communicate,” Khalid told reporters, referring to Apandi.
Earlier today, National Audit Department deputy director R. Raja Sunthara Kannan was quoted in Bernama as saying that the outcome of the department’s probe on 1MDB will be released in about three months.
He added that the probe was now in its second phase, which involves a more detailed look at 1MDB’s books.
