KUALA NERUS, Oct 4 — Terengganu and Kelantan are making early preparations to face the annual year-end floods.

The Terengganu Civil Defence Department (JPAM) has actively trained about 3,000 officers and volunteers to face the eventuality of floods this year.

Its director, Lt Col Che Adam A Rahman told Bernama that JPAM was always ready and had mobilised all its staff and assets to face the disaster, which hit some areas in the state every year.

Meanwhile in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) director Hasan Jusoh said FAMA would provide instant food packages to flood victims in the state, in effort to smoothen early flood aid.

He said the packages worth around RM50 each, comprising instant food like biscuits and others, would be distributed to displaced flood victims.

“However, the number of packages that will be distributed in the state will be decided by the FAMA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur,” he told Bernama.

In Kuala Krai, Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Azmi Osman said the department has adopted various measures and strategies to face the flood season in the state this year.

He said the preparations were based on the experiences and lessons learnt from the last year’s flood disaster.

“Among the strategies is to mobilise boats earlier to high-risk locations like Gua Musang, Kuala Krai and Pasir Mas.

“We have also added a number of ground vehicles to help in rescue operations,” he told reporters.  — Bernama
