KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — The Air Pollutant Index (API) improved in several areas as of evening with no areas with very unhealthy API readings as compared to the six areas at 1pm today.
According to the Department of Environment portal, until 6pm today six areas recorded very unhealthy air quality, namely Shah Alam currently at an unhealthy API reading of 191, followed by Port Klang (185), Batu Muda (178), Putrajaya and Cyberjaya 177 respectively and Banting (175).
Meanwhile, some areas recorded an increase in API, but are still at unhealthy levels, namely Kampung Air Putih in Taiping with a reading of 173, Seberang Jaya 2 and Perai in Penang (186 and 157 respectively), Universiti Sains Malaysia (180), Alor Setar and Langkawi in Kedah (164 and 112 respectively), Sri Manjung in Perak (142) and Kangar in Perlis (103).
Other regions at unhealthy levels are SK Jalan Pegoh (183), Bakar Arang in Kedah (159), Nilai (156), Seremban (156), Port Dickson (144), Jerantut (140), Jalan Tasek, Ipoh (156), Kuala Selangor (155) and Cheras (154).
Meanwhile, unhealthy API was also recorded in Malacca City and Bukit Rambai in Malacca each with a reading of 131 and 130, while Kemaman in Terengganu (113), Kuala Terengganu (123), and Muar (115).
API readings of 0-50 is categorised as good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
