KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 — The National Zoo has refuted a rumour spread over the Whatsapp application that a male tiger was shot by the police in its compound yesterday.
“The National Zoo regrets the spread of the rumour as this should not have been made a laughing matter by irresponsible parties,” said Zoology and Veterinary director of the Giant Panda Conservation Centre, Dr Mat Naim Ramli.
“As a result of the rumour, we were bombarded with inquiries from the public who were afraid,” he said in a statement to Bernama here today.
According to the message that was spread yesterday, witnesses had reportedly seen a hungry male tiger roaming in the zoo at 9.30am before it was shot by the police. — Bernama
