KOTA KINABALU, Sept 29 — History and historical evidence should continue to be preserved for future generations as well as for the tourism sector to develop as tourist attractions, said Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
He said history and historical evidence were invaluable cultural heritage which should be cherished and preserved for the benefit of all.
“Society may show their appreciation for their cultural heritage by helping to inform the Sabah museum to act on preserving or conserving heritage sites or antiques which they have come across in the state.
“In Sabah, we have many historical sites but they simply diminished because they were not preserved. Many of our earthenware jars or tempayan have been exported overseas as many people are not aware of the importance and value of these treasures,” he told reporters at the opening of the special ‘Dirgahayu TYT’ exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Civilization near here today.
The exhibition was officiated by Sabah Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar bin Mahiruddin. — Bernama
