KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — The family of the late deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais were seen at Hospital Kuala Lumpur early this evening to claim his body and transport it to Shah Alam for cremation.
At around 4.45pm, Morais’ brother Datuk Richard Morais was spotted among those who came to collect the body of the deceased.

However, the police later confirmed that the family had not claimed the body even though the cortege left the hospital grounds and headed for the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Sungai Besi.
“Go ahead and ask the HKL why they refused to collect the body today,” KL CID chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said, referring to Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s acronym.
When contacted, Datuk Richard Morais refused to elaborate on the incident and just said the wake for his brother will be taking place tomorrow.

Morais’ body was found hidden in a cement-filled oil drum last week after he went missing for 13 days.
He was last seen on September 4 leaving his Menara Duta condominium in Segambut for his office at the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Putrajaya, and the government lawyer’s brother filed a missing person’s report the next day.
Previously, the police confirmed that the mysterious disappearance of Morais had been reclassified as an abduction case, saying that the abduction probe under Section 365 of the Penal Code was based on a new lead from close-circuit (CCTV) recordings of major roads from Kuala Lumpur to Perak’s Hutan Melintang area.

Morais, 55, was seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission nearly 10 years ago to aid its prosecution division, but returned to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in July as deputy head of its appellate and trial division.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali has previously denied Morais was involved in any government probe on controversial state investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
