JOHOR BARU, Sept 3 — A lawyer who was arrested by Singapore police yesterday, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to two charges of criminal breach of trust involving a total sum of RM533,000, five years ago.
The accused, Kamal Hisham Jaafar, 45, claimed trial to both charges which were read out to him before Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz.
Kamal Hisham is accused of committing criminal breach of trust between December 2009 and October 2010 using the name of a company to enter into lease agreements totalling RM533,000 with two companies wanting to rent two business premises in the JB Sentral Building, here.
Kamal Hisham was then the director of Southern Ads Sdn Bhd. The premises were rented out without the approval of the company’s board of directors.
Mohamad Haldar allowed Kamal Hisham bail of RM300,000 in two sureties, pending the case re-mention on Sept 30.
Kamal Hisham was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court and to report to the nearest police station once every fortnight.
Kamal Hisham, who was wanted by Malaysian police for the past three years, was arrested by Singapore police at 11.15am yesterday after entering the island republic through Changi International Airport on Tuesday night from the Middle East.
Through the Interpol arrest warrant issued against him, he was brought back here for further action.
Johor state prosecution unit head Saiful Edris Zainuddin and DPP Nor Iffa Zarilla appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by counsel S. Prakash, Mohd Ashram Zakaria, Hazza Khalid, G. Sritharan and Gobind Singh Deo. — Bernama
