SERDANG, Aug 31 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged journalists from non-mainstream media to help paint Barisan Nasional (BN) in a good light, in the ruling coalition’s bid to reclaim the support of Chinese and Indian voters.
Ahmad Zahid said he was convinced that journalists from the “other” media were not anti-BN, only that they did not have much confidence in the ruling government.
“It’s not as if they hate us. Try asking the reporters. If they hate us, they wouldn’t come here, right?” he told journalists after launching the Puchong Umno division meeting here.
“Please change the minds of the Chinese and Indian voters to vote for BN in the coming general election,” he added.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, has been at loggerheads with the online media for several years now, accusing them of spinning his statements out of context and having banned several media organisations from covering ministerial events.
Earlier in his speech, he pointed out that while a higher percentage of Malays had voted for BN in the past two elections, the Chinese and Indian votes had fell.
