KUCHING, Aug 6 ― Tan Sri Adenan Satem today urged voters in the hornbill state to consider his performance in his 15 months as Sarawak chief minister when they cast their ballots in the coming state election
Adenan, who will be seeking second term as chief minister, said he has done much for Sarawak and its people since he took on the responsibility of leading the state in February 28 last year.
“That is why I am asking the people to give me another five more years to helm the state government so that I can do more,” he said when handing over titles to owners of traditional land in the Tupong and Samariang state constituencies here today.
“If you believe that I can bring more development and changes, there is no need for me to remind you .You know what I mean,” he said, adding that he would be grateful if voters understood his wish to stay on as chief minister.
Sarawak is due to hold its state elections before June next year.
An April survey conducted by the Merdeka Center indicated that Adenan enjoys a 74 per cent approval rating among the Sarawak voters, while 68 per cent said they were satisfied with the performance of the state government under him.
Adenan, who had taken the chief minister’s reins from Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, also reminded Sarawakians of his effort to stop illegal logging in the state.
“The state lost billions in revenue because of uncontrolled illegal logging for decades,” he said.
In an integrated operations carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the police and the Inland Revenue Board early this year, over 500 bank accounts of timber and timber-related companies and individuals were frozen.
