KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Whistleblower website Sarawak Report (SR) is back online, after it was inaccessible worldwide for most of this morning and afternoon.
The London-based website, which has been reporting on the controversy surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), could be accessed again around 5.00 pm Malaysian time.
“We are back online now,” SR said in a comment on its official Facebook page.
The London-based website had earlier showed the “503 Service Unavailable” error, with its editor Clare Rewcastle Brown saying that she suspected a “hacking” job.
However, Goh Su Gim, security advisor for the Asian branch of Finland-based computer security company F-Secure, told Malay Mail Online that a “503” message simply meant that servers were not available.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said last Sunday it had ordered Internet service providers (ISPs) to block local access to Sarawak Report, pending the completion of an investigation on 1MDB, for carrying articles on the controversy surrounding the state-owned fund that it described as unverified news.
