KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 ― Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar should openly name the opposition leaders who met former Petrosaudi International (PSI) executive Xavier Andre Justo, DAP’s Tony Pua said today after being barred from leaving the country.
The Petaling Jaya Utara MP added that the police chief should plainly identify the individuals who did so and stop using the “opposition leader” catch-all to cast aspersions on the entire section of opposition members.
“The IGP should be responsible and name the opposition leaders that met with Justo. IGP is not professional, he should be more careful on his statements,” Pua told reporters at a press conference at DAP headquarters today.
Pua today repeated his denial of having ever met Justo, and that he only knew about the latter’s existence after the news of the Swiss national’s arrest in Bangkok was published.
DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, who was also present during the news conference, added that it was unbecoming for the IGP to threaten opposition politicians with arrest over the alleged meeting with Justo.
Last Friday, Khalid announced that the police have identified the Malaysian opposition leader who allegedly met with Justo to buy confidential documents linked to PSI's aborted joint venture with 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The IGP also said the authorities will arrest those involved if they refuse to cooperate with the investigations.
Thai police arrested Justo on June 22 on charges of blackmailing PSI, an international company based in Saudi Arabia linked to the 1MDB financial scandal.
Following the alleged sale of the documents, several emails and documents were published by the Sarawak Report news portal that led to allegations against 1MDB.
