KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 ― Former journalist Lester Melanyi denied he met with federal police investigators over his accusations against Sarawak Report for forgery, as claimed by the organiser of his video exposés this morning.
The former Sarawak Tribune editor said he was only in Kuala Lumpur to meet with Ramesh Rao Krishnan Naidu, who arranged for the videos to be produced, about a press conference next week.
“I am here to meet Ramesh not the police...no such thing.
“So far Bukit Aman has not called me. I have already been interviewed by the police last Friday and Saturday in Kuching,” he told Malay Mail Online when contacted.
Earlier in a press conference today, Ramesh, who is Pertubuhan Minda and Sosial Prihatin chairman, told reporters that Lester is in the city to meet with police from Bukit Aman.
Ramesh also announced today that he will release a third video next week, to disprove London-based whistleblower site SR’s allegations against 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Two such videos have already been released, but their credibility has already been dented twice.
After the first video was released on Thursday, Lester admitted to Malay Mail Online that he was paid to expose a grand conspiracy ostensibly involving Malaysia’s opposition and Sarawak Report to unseat Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak using purportedly doctored leaks of documents on 1MDB.
The second video featured the picture of a British rail services manager that was mistakenly used to represent that of a web designer Lester claimed was involved in forging documents on 1MDB.
DAP MP Tony Pua and Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown have both pledged to sue Lester over the claims made in the videos.
