KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 ― The prime minister should be barred from leaving the country over allegations he received 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds, DAP’s Lim Kit Siang said after opposition MPs were put on a travel blacklist today believed to be over claims against the state-owned firm.
Lim said Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not specifically denied the Wall Street Journal’s claim that US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) in 1MDB monies ended up in his personal bank accounts.
“If anyone deserves to be on the blacklist, it should be Najib. Najib is virtually on the position of an accused and should be on the blacklist,” Lim told reporters at a press conference at the DAP headquarters today.
Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming today also added that current and former 1MDB chief executives Arul Kanda Kandasamy and Shahrol Hilmi did not face any travel restriction.
Ong said the authorities should be “more consistent” in taking action on all those involved in the 1MDB scandal instead of just picking on opposition members.
“If Rafizi and Pua have been barred from leaving the country, why have this people (Shahrol and Arul Kanda) have not been barred or put on the blacklist yet?” he told reporters today.
Pua was barred from boarding a flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) today, while PKR’s Rafizi Ramli said his name has been flagged by the Immigration Department.
Both men were recently accused of being co-conspirators in a purported plot to forge 1MDB documents to oust Najib from office.
