KUCHING, July 11 — The Sarawak’s Welfare Department (JKM) is in the midst of assessing losses caused by yesterday’s storm in Miri, said Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

She said the assessment was to determine the types of aid and assistance that could be extended to the victims.

“I was informed by the JKM that during the storm, the roofs of six houses in Kampung Subak, Sibuti, as well as the roof of Awing Longhouse in Kampung Sungai Semurok, Niah, were blown off by strong winds.

“However, the damage caused by the storm did not require the victims to evacuate. So, the JKM will look into suitable aid to be channelled to the victims, probably in the form of new roof,” she told reporters here today.

The storm also caused dozens of trees to be uprooted. — Bernama
