KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 ― Barisan Nasional (BN) will not intervene in the worsening MIC leadership crisis, its Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said.
Although concerned with the current development, he believes the party could sort out their own problem internally.
“They feel they can solve the problem, so leave it to them (resolve the party's internal matter). However, as the secretary-general of Barisan Nasional, I advise them to please think rationally and unite as the Indian community needs MIC to achieve what they desire,” he told reporters at the Dewan Rakyat lobby here today.
Yesterday, MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel suspended his deputy Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and 14 others for a year with immediate effect for defying his orders to not hold the party's Interim Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting.
However, Subramaniam has dismissed the order to suspend him and 14 others in the party as invalid but Palanivel later stressed that he was still the MIC president and dismissed claims made by the party's CWC.
Tengku Adnan said the BN had repeatedly approached MIC and recommended some solutions, but they were not agreeable to it.
“We have spoken to them many times and offered some solutions...but they have not accepted it,” he said.
Tengku Adnan however, dismissed claims that the crisis would effect BN's performance as a whole.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri said the decision of the court must be studied holistically and the written judgement studied in detail to handle the MIC crisis.
“I need to get the written judgement first because teams within the party are sacking each other using their own constitution. It is true that they have referred to their lawyers but the court's decision must be studied carefully first,” she said. ― Bernama
