KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 ― A circulating text message is calling on Malaysians to gather tomorrow at the Subang Skypark airport to welcome former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he returns from Mecca.

News portal Malaysiakini reported that the text message is being disseminated to gather a reception for Dr Mahathir and his wife who went to perform their umrah pilgrimage amid growing controversy over state investment firm 1 Malaysia Development Bhd.

The text message reads: “Jom sambut negarawan terbilang Tun Mahathir yang kembali dari Mekah bersama Tun Dr Siti Ibu Mithali Negara pada 15hb Mei Jumaat, jam 12.30pm di Subang Skypark Terminal. Tun M adalah insan mulia yang terlalu banyak jasa pada negara. Dihina, dikeji dan dikutuk Namun Tun M meneruskan misi perjuangan yang belum selesai. Rakyat marhen bersama tun walaupun tidak diberi BR1M. Ayoh kita ke Subang Skypark.”

(Let us celebrate the return of Dr Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr Siti’s return from Mecca on May 15th, 12.30pm at Subang Skypark Terminal. Dr Mahathir is a noble soul who has done a lot of good for the country… The people are with him despite not been given Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M).

Dr Mahathir is demanding Datuk Seri Najib Razak resign as prime minister over the allegations surrounding 1MDB as well as other issues such as the 1 Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M).
