BUTTERWORTH, May 5 — Vote counting in the Permatang Pauh by-election this Thursday will be conducted at the polling stations and not at the official vote tallying centre, according to the Election Commission (EC).
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the counting of votes would be carried out when the polling process ends at 5pm.
“During the counting process, agents of the candidates will be at the polling stations to observe,” he said in statement here today.
He said a total of 71,252 ordinary voters would be voting in 130 voting channels in 25 polling stations.
The Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat by-election sees a four-cornered fight between BN Suhaimi Sabudin, PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Salleh Isahak (Independent).
The by-election is being held after incumbent Datuk Seri Anwar lost his eligibility as member of parliament when he was convicted of sodomy and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. — Bernama
