KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 — The police have summoned the research aide of DAP lawmaker Charles Santiago for questioning tomorrow, amid an ongoing crackdown related to the May 1 anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) rally in Kuala Lumpur.
Jay Jay Denis said he received a call from one ASP Muniandy from Bukit Aman’s D5 criminal investigation department asking him to turn up for questioning at 2.30pm, but was not informed of the offence for which he will be investigated.
“He hasn’t replied to that question. But I have been reliably informed by others who have (been) called up prior to this that the D5 unit in Bukit Aman investigates cases relating to sedition,” Jay Jay told Malay Mail Online via text message.
“Can only be certain tomorrow,” he added.
On Friday, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar cautioned Jay Jay against going overboard with his criticism of the string of arrests after the May Day rally, insisting on microblogging site Twitter that the police were merely doing their jobs arresting troublemakers seen using smoke bombs during the protest.
“In another move to terrorise the people of Malaysia, @KBAB51 and @PDRMsia have begun mass arrests. Yet again. Up to 54 detained #BantahGST,” Jay Jay wrote, using his handle @jayjaydenis.
A string of opposition politicians and social activists were detained for questioning over the past few days in connection with the afternoon rally, apart from 23 other people who have had their remand extended till tomorrow.
