Pakatan MP claims to be the latest to be summoned by cops over #KitaLawan

PERMATANG PAUH, April 28 — An opposition lawmaker today revealed that he is being investigated for taking part in a #KitaLawan rally, believed to be the fifth opposition leader to be hauled up by the police over the protest movement.

PKR Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tsin said the Dang Wangi district police headquarters had called him a few days ago and told him that he would be probed over the recent March 28 #KitaLawan gathering.

“I will be the fifth in the series of arrests of Pakatan Rakyat leaders over last month’s #KitaLawan gatherings,” he told a press conference at Yayasan Aman here today.

Yesterday, Bersih 2.0 issued a statement confirming that its chairman, Maria Chin Abdullah, will be giving her statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today over the rallies.

Sim believed that all these investigations, into him and Maria, and maybe others too is a “harassment leading up to the Labour Day massive rally” this Friday.

“They are going to call in more of us in these few days leading up to the rally,” he said.

The police have been arresting opposition leaders in a dragnet over the #KitaLawan rallies, held over the past few weeks seeking the release of jailed opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Among those snagged by the authorities was PAS’ Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who was detained by police in a pre-dawn raid.

Sim today questioned the independence of the police force especially when they arrested some PR leaders over the peaceful rallies but let off Datuk Abdullah Abu Bakar — the brother of inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar — after three hours of questioning.

Abdullah was hauled in for questioning over his role as a mediator in a recent protest in front of a church in Taman Medan two weeks ago, which forced the church to take down a cross affixed on the facade of the shoplot, out of which it operates.

The #KitaLawan protest movement is planning a large-scale anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) rally this Friday at Dataran Merdeka, despite being declared illegal by the authorities.
