GEORGE TOWN, April 16 — A 63 year-old man and his 31-year-old son landed in the police lock-up here after they allegedly slapped a traffic policeman and spat on him.
They have been remanded for three days to help police investigation under Section 353 of the Penal Code for assaulting a policeman.
The incident allegedly happened at 9.50pm at Jalan Patani on Tuesday night when the father and son were forced to stop at a police checkpoint after the son was spotted driving without his safety belt fastened.
Following a quick check, a policeman also found that the driver’s licence had expired.
Ignoring the pleas of the driver’s father, the policeman proceeded to issue a summons for the offence.
The father then turned aggressive and spat on the policeman’s face, the son followed suit and slapped the policeman’s left cheek.
The policeman’s colleagues then rushed to his aid and arrested the father and son, who are from Bukit Mertajam.
They were locked up at the Jalan Patani police station.
Northeast District Police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid confirmed the incident and said the duo had no previous criminal record.
