SHAH ALAM, April 8 — The Home Ministry’s Publication and Quranic Texts Control Division today announced the seizure of 230 items deemed offensive from three outlets at a shopping complex in Petaling Jaya.
The items, valued at RM14,234, were confiscated during raids conducted jointly with the police yesterday.
Among items seized were sex toys, shirts with suggestive titles and bags with graphics of marijuana leaves on them.
“We seized about 150 clothes, toys and 80 assorted stuff such as bags and caps among others,” the division’s enforcement unit chief Mohamad Hashim Kamaruddin said in a press conference here today.
“This seizure was done under the Printing Press and Publication Act 1984, and the premises’ owners shall be investigated under this act.”
The owners will be investigated under Section 7 of PPPA for harbouring materials deemed prejudicial to the public morality and safety, and if found guilty, may be punished under Section 8(2) of the same Act that allows for jail of up to three years, a fine of no more than RM20,000, or both.
Mohamad said that the shop owners were previously warned, and were raided after they failed to comply.
He also urged the public to come forward if they have seen similar things displayed at shopping complexes or other public places.
