SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — Four men and two women, aged 19 to 28, have been arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of 60-year-old businesswoman Balveer Kaur on Feb 13 near Sunway Pyramid.

The first suspect, a 24-year-old man, was arrested at 3.20am in Subang Jaya. This led to the arrest of a 19-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man at the Gua Tempurung rest stop at 3.15pm the following day.

After the duo’s arrests, police raided a home in Gelugor, Penang, where a 22-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were nabbed at 11.15pm. The last suspect, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on Monday also from a house in Gelugor.

Selangor CID chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said a task force was set up to investigate the case after a report was received on the woman’s abduction.

“We are looking for another suspect, 23-year-old S. Vivegkananthaa, to conclude investigations,” he said.

Police confiscated a car believed to have been used in the kidnapping.

“We believe the car was used to transport the victim to Penang,” Adnan said.

He said the motive for the kidnapping was ransom as the suspects had demanded RM2 million from Balveer’s family for her release. The family did not meet their demands.

The six suspects will be remanded until Feb 22.

The case has been classified under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and if found guilty, the suspects face the death penalty or life imprisonment.

Balveer’s body was found on Feb 14 floating in Sungai Kerian near Kampung Sungai Udang in Nibong Tebal, Penang, at 10am.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem report from the hospital before we can establish the cause of death,” said Adnan.
