KUALA KANGSAR, Feb 12 — Police summoned senior administrative assistant of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Keruh in Pengkalan Hulu, K. Anparasu, to facilitate investigations into the leak of the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) 2014 examination papers.

This followed public information disclosing that images of the copies of the UPSR examination papers were received via the suspect’s mobile phone.

Criminal Investigation Department district police headquarters (IPD) Putrajaya investigating officer, Inspector M. Veknasvaran told the Sessions Court here today that Anparasu was summoned for the first time to record a statement related to the case on Sept 16, last year at IPD Putrajaya.

“On the same day, I seized a Samsung mobile phone belonging to Anparasu and reported the seizure at the Precinct 7 Police Station, Putrajaya. “At about 4.05 pm on the same day, I handed over the mobile phone that I had seized to ASP Irwan Saimi, an investigating officer from IPD Putrajaya,” he said.

Veknasvaran was testifying on the first day of the trial of Anparasu, 51, who faces three charges of having copies of the UPSR Mathematics papers 035/1 and 035/2 and Science paper 018 on his Samsung Trend smartphone between 8.29 am to 9.43 am on September 9 and 10 last year.

In today’s proceedings, when asked to identify the mobile phone belonging to the suspect by the deputy public prosecutor Mohd Amril Johari, Veknasvaran said he recognised the gadget based on its imei number and the serial number recorded when confiscating it.

He also informed the court that Anparasu was arrested at IPD Kuala Kangsar on November 27, last year, around 10.00am when the suspect arrived to have his statement recorded for the second time.

“I reported the arrest made in Kuala Kangsar. I had orders from the top to detain Anparasu to facilitate investigations,” he said. On the same day, Anparasu was charged in the Kuala Kangsar Sessions Court.

In a reply to a question by counsel T.Ellanggovan, Veknasvaran said the suspect cooperated when called to record a statement at IPD Putrajaya and IPD Kuala Kangsar.

The trial before Judge Johari Hassan will continue on March 26 and 27. — Bernama
