KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 — A policeman attached to the Kota Damansara police station was charged yesterday with rape, performing oral sex and extorting money from a private college student.

Lance corporal Muhamad Fazrul Fauzi, 30, who allegedly raped the 19-year-old girl in a male toilet at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya between midnight and 1.45am on Jan 27, claimed trial before Sessions judge Azhanis Teh Azman Teh.

The accused was allowed bail of RM15,000. He was also allowed bail of RM15,000 for the oral sex charge.

Muhamad Fazrul also pleaded not guilty in the magistrate’s court here with extorting the student of RM500 the same day.

Magistrate Mohd Solihin Abdul Wahid allowed bail of RM5,000 with one surety.

According to the facts of the case, Muhamad Fazrul extorted the victim by telling her she would be expelled from college and arrested by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department if she did not comply with his demands.

Both courts fixed March 10 for next mention.

Muhamad Fazrul’s counsel, Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar, earlier pleaded to the court to grant bail for his client, saying he had yet to be expelled from his job by Bukit Aman.

He also assured the court Muhamad Fazrul would stay with his brother, who would be his bailor throughout the trial until the case was resolved.

“My client has no criminal record and I assure the court he will not pester the victim or witnesses of the case,” said Ahmad Zaharil.

Muhamad Fazrul wore a red T-shirt and pants and appeared calm when he was charged in both courts.
