BANTING, Jan 30 — A man was crushed to death by a falling tree at a food stall nearby the Teluk Datok Forestry Department office here this afternoon.

In the 2pm incident, P. Anbarasan, 54, was having lunch with three friends when suddenly the tree toppled over during heavy winds and crushed him.

Banting Fire Station chief Mohd Jaslizad Jalil said firemen dispatched to the scene used chainsaws to cut up the tree before they were able to retrieve the victim’s body.

One of Anbarasan’s friends who only wanted to be known as Silvaguru, 40, said they could not save Anbarasan because everything happened very fast.

“We were having lunch when all of a sudden this tree came down. It happened so fast, there was nothing we could do,” he said. — Bernama
