KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 — All PAS members should pour their energy and time to aid flood relief efforts, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

Describing the severe floods as a heavy “test” from God, Abdul Hadi also listed down the hardships faced by the flood victims, including property damage, loss of shelter and lack of food supplies.

“The more heavy duty task that lies before us now is the post-flood challenges that demands all of the party members to go down to the field to help victims and the public that needs us,” he said in a brief statement today.

He then urged the party members to use their weekends and spend the early period of this year to turn out in full force to provide aid, while also continuing to contribute supplies, financial resources and energy.

Hadi said the PAS central unit that coordinates the flood response will give specific instructions to the members.

In what is said to be Malaysia’s worst floods in decades, 21 people have been killed and over 230,000 people were forced to flee their homes due to the rising flood waters.

The flood waters have however started to recede and the number of evacuees has dropped to 82,637 as of the National Security Council’s statistics at 2pm today.

Many parts of peninsular Malaysia were swamped by floodwaters, with Terengganu, Pahang and PAS stronghold Kelantan being among the hardest-hit states.
