"If given the choice, we want to rebuild our houses," said Kamaruddin Hamid, 53, who was busy collecting wood planks after 80 per cent of his house was destroyed when Sungai Galas overflowed its banks yesterday. Trader Amri Muhammad Amir, 40, also agreed with Kamaruddin that government representatives should assess the damage so that the aid can be fairly distributed.
He feared if the aid was given in the form of cash, some people might receive less than others. The mudflow which hit Kampung Limau Kasturi I not only inudated the village but also buried a train coach at the railway station.
Amri said the train was on its way to Kota Baharu when it was trapped by a landslide and could not turn back to Gua Musang.
"An elderly man told me that Kampung Limau Kasturi has never since such severe flooding in 100 years. The floods really left us confused," he added. — Bernama
