KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 ― The DAP launched today a nationwide flood relief fund to help the thousands of displaced Malaysians affected by the country’s worst flood in decades.

DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke said the DAP central leadership will allocate RM10,000 to kickstart the fund and that every DAP elected representative has been directed to launch donation drives starting this weekend in their respective constituencies.

Besides that, he said a truck loaded with mineral water bottles and bread will be deployed to victims in Gua Musang and Kuala Krai on Monday, adding that he will personally lead the mission to Kelantan.

“Continuous efforts are under way to get more containers of mineral water and food items to be deployed to the affected areas especially in Kelantan.

“The DAP leadership urges all Malaysians to come forward to give a helping hand to our fellow Malaysians who are affected by the flood by donating generously to this ‘Flood Relief Fund’,” he said in a statement.

At press time, Pahang has the most number of evacuees with 29,296, followed by Terengganu, 28,317, Kelantan 25,146, then Perak, 5,940, Perlis 220 and Kedah, 96.

Three deaths have been recorded in Kelantan while the first wave of floods took four lives in Terengganu more than a week ago.

Loke said all donations collected will be deposited into a special account: “Tabung Dana Kecemasan” (Ambank 8881002244649).

The Seremban MP said the funds collected will be channeled to the most affected areas according to needs in the next few weeks.
